Patients, please carefully follow instructions:

  • READ OR WATCH ALL INSTRUCTIONS to prepare for your procedure.
  • 7 Days BEFORE Your Procedure:  Patients taking Ozempic®, Moujaro®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, Victoza® or similar generic medications for diabetes or weight reduction must STOP these at least 7 days prior to your procedure. This should be done under the direction of your prescribing physician. For your safety, your procedure will be rescheduled if any of these are taken within 7 days of your procedure.
  • THIS IS A SEDATED PROCEDURE.  A RESPONSIBLE DRIVER MUST REMAIN in the facility throughout your appointment (~ 2 hours total). NO EXCEPTIONS.
  • WE MAY CALL THE DAY BEFORE to adjust your appointment time as the doctor’s schedule is finalized.
  • NO CHILDREN UNDER AGE 16 are allowed at appointments.
  • WATCH FOR A TEXT AND EMAIL 4 days before your procedure with a link to complete your required online registration.
  • To CANCEL or RESCHEDULE to a different day, please call us at least 48 hours in advance to avoid a $250 cancellation fee.

EGD - For Patients Taking GLP-1 Agonist Medications

Preparing for your EGD

You have been scheduled for an Upper GI endoscopy, sometimes called an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy). This is a visual examination of the upper intestinal tract using a lighted, flexible fiber‐optic or video endoscope. Please follow these preparation instructions carefully and don’t hesitate to call our office with questions or concerns.

The Day BEFORE Your Exam:

  • STOP all solid foods. .
  • Starting with a clear liquid breakfast, drink plenty of clear liquids during the day and evening. Clear liquids include: Water, sports drinks, black coffee, tea, any soda (light or dark), broth, Jell-O, popsicles, and juice without pulp. NOTHING RED OR PURPLE.

The Day Of Your Exam

  • You may continue clear liquids until up to 2 hours before your exam.
  • NOTHING BY MOUTH FOR 2 HOURS BEFORE YOU ARRIVE! (This includes water, gum and mints. NOTHING by mouth.)

Other Information

Medications:

  • DO NOT skip your regular medications. Take regularly prescribed medications at least two (2) hours before you arrive. If you have an inhaler, please bring it with you.

Diabetics:

  • STOP taking Ozempic®, Moujaro®, Rybelsus®, Trulicity®, Victoza® or similar generic medications for diabetes or weight reduction. This should be done under the direction of your prescribing physician. For your safety, your procedure will be rescheduled if any of these are taken within 7 days of your procedure.
  • DO NOT take oral diabetic medication or insulin the morning of your procedure. Bring your insulin with you.
  • Test your blood sugar before coming in for your procedure and bring the reading with you.
  • Please contact the physician that manages your diabetic care if you have any questions regarding your oral medication or insulin dosages.

 

Blood Thinners:

  • If you are taking blood thinners, call your prescribing physician and ask if you may stop taking the medication for the required amount of time prior to your procedure.
  • You may continue taking aspirin, ibuprofen and other anti‐inflammatory medications.

Bring with You:

  • Leave valuables and phone/devices at home or with your driver
  • Photo ID and Insurance Card
  • Your inhaler, if you use one
  • Your insulin, if you use it
  • List of all medications, vitamins and supplements you are taking (include dosage and last date and time each medication was taken before your arrival)
  • Wear a short-sleeved shirt

Utah State regulations require patients to have a responsible adult present and able to drive them home after a sedated medical procedure. A taxi, Uber or any other paid driver cannot act as such. Patients arriving without a driver have the choice of rescheduling the procedure for a time when a driver can be present or having their procedure without sedation.
