Hemorrhoid Treatment & Removal in Utah

Protecting Your Comfort, Safety & Health

The Utah Hemorrhoid Center at Granite Peaks Gastroenterology is the Salt Lake Valley’s first GI practice to offer hemorrhoid banding and the largest provider of the CRH O’Regan system in Utah. Our ligation system cuts off the hemorrhoid’s blood supply more quickly, comfortably, and accurately than other methods.

There is no need for sedation, so you can drive yourself home after the procedure. You may find an over-the-counter pain medication helpful following the procedure.

We suggest you curtail athletic activity for the remainder of the day after the procedure, but many people find they can return to office jobs and simple tasks immediately afterwards. Discuss your activity level with your provider.

The risks and side effects of hemorrhoid banding are rare. However, if you experience any of the following you should call our office

You should NOT feel any pain or any type of “pinching” sensation after the procedure — if you do, please let your doctor know immediately before leaving the office. This discomfort can typically be remedied by repositioning the band that was applied.

Hemorrhoid Banding Recovery

  • Avoid strenuous activities for the rest of the day
  • Resume full activity the following day
  • Avoid constant sitting if possible – stand up every 2-3 hours at minimum
  • Avoid constipation – use a fiber supplement if needed
  • If travel is necessary, stay well-hydrated to avoid constipation, avoid alcohol, stand up frequently

Hemorrhoid Banding — the Gold Standard for Internal Hemorrhoid Treatment

Today, the safest, most common hemorrhoid treatment is rubber-band ligation, or hemorrhoid banding. In fact, while banding isn’t surgery at all, it is the most common “surgical” procedure for hemorrhoids. Roughly 50 million hemorrhoid banding procedures are performed each year. Ligation treats more than 95% of all hemorrhoids. Many consider banding the gold-standard for treatment for internal hemorrhoids.
