Hemorrhoid Banding & Treatment

When you are suffering from hemorrhoids, treatment can offer relief, often more quickly and painlessly than you imagine.

Many people experience hemorrhoids at various times within their lives. Hemorrhoids are simply the bulging and swelling of the veins around your anus. They can develop when pressure increases in the lower rectum. Hemorrhoids can develop when straining during bowel movements such as would occur with constipation or diarrhea, and other medical conditions. They can also be caused by pregnancy, obesity, or a low fiber diet. You are more likely to develop them as you age.

Often patients will think that the only reason to seek hemorrhoid treatment is for comfort. However, you should talk to your physician about your hemorrhoids to make sure they aren’t bleeding enough to cause anemia. Usually hemorrhoids will be diagnosed during a physical exam and after discussing symptoms with your care provider.

Depending on the severity of your hemorrhoids, treatment can be provided in a variety of ways. Medications, either over the counter or prescription, may bring relief for mild hemorrhoids. Hemorrhoid banding is effective and is a minimally invasive procedure where tiny bands are placed around the base of the hemorrhoid to cut off circulation. Hemorrhoid surgery is often not necessary but can be performed when needed.
